About Me
Hi my name is Alan Firmin. Welcome to my blog where I share all the interesting things that I come across in my line of work. From art, typography, advertising, graphic design, poetry, writing and anything creative I will be posting it up here. I have always tried to inspire or help people in any way I can so most of my posts are inspirational type posts, although I also will post things about social media or any creative field.
I am the founder of Sqrall – a social media community for collectors.
I’ve been nearly 20 years in advertising both traditional and digital for Grey Worldwide, Draftfcb and Y&R in many countries including England, France, Holland, Kuwait, Lebanon and Dubai. I have been fortunate to work on most of the major global brands during my career including IKEA, Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz, Nokia to name but a few.
I have won over 30 awards in advertising and now live in Dubai working as Regional Creative Director & Digital Strategic Director with VML.
I am a Published writer, artist, love poetry, Advanced PADI scuba diver and love to play most sports but especially Football, Golf and Tennis. Oh! and of course I love all things about collecting!
I am very happily married to a beautiful woman called Yasmine . We have two amazing children called Adam and Meena. I hope you enjoy reading about my varied interests.
Drop me a message if you want as I would love to hear your views on what I post. Take care Alan.

Hi
An interesting collection. It’d be nice to be able to know the names of the artists too, although perhaps that’s not possible if it was commissioned work?

hi, just knew the phrase: be fearful of mediocrity. wonder what does it means exactly?
afirmin71
February 15, 2011 at 4:50 am
Thank you for your comment. For me, ‘Be fearful of Mediocrity’ comes from something my father always used to tell me, “If you are going to do something in your life, give it everything you can. As anything less is just not good enough.” Mediocrity is something average or ordinary and although we cannot all be Picasso or DaVinci, we can do our best at whatever it is we do. To fear this, is because anyone can do mediocre things and the world, you deserve better than mediocre. Hope that answers your question? Take care Alan.

Hi Alan,
Man great writings you’ve got in here. Very interesting. Today when Mr. George Maalouf told me about your twitter existence. I logged in at my twitter account after several months (because I’ve found twitter quite boring and mostly it seems like talking to the digital wall).
There wasn’t much at your twitter account apart from personal messages, but your website is full of inspiring words together with interesting work samples. Keep it up buddy, you’ve got full-fledge flame in you, you are blessed. It was pleasure reading your POV about big and small. Take care & keep writting… bless you.
